"Just In Case"

How much better off this world would be if we all just learned to love and look after each other. It shouldn't be that difficult. Children do it every day. Case in point - my grandchildren. They are Genna, age 6 and Walker age 3. They are brother and sister and they truly do love each other, more so than I remember my children doing at that age, and more so I know than my brother and I did at that age.

Genna is very protective of Walker and is constantly checking on him to see if he is alright. Walker is just as concerned with her well being. Sure they argue from time to time but all children do. These are children, not saints.

Anyway recently my wife was in Moultrie, Georgia taking care of them while their parents were tied up with work projects. When it came time to go out for lunch my wife told Walker he needed to go to the bathroom before they got in the car. He said he was fine but Genna was concerned. "He has been having accidents," she said, "and has had to go to timeout."

Still Walker insisted he was fine and off they went to the fast food place. By the time they got there Walker was desperate to find a bathroom. He made it - almost. He did show signs of an accident. This upset him and this in turn upset Genna.

The next day when they again started to go find a place to eat Genna went into the back of the house and came out with her purse. As my wife was seat belting them into the car Genna turned to Walker and said, "Don't worry, Walker. I brought some extra panties in case you need them."

"Panties or underpants?" asked Walker, looking confused.

"Your underpants," Genna answered. "You know, just in case you need them."

Sure enough she opened her purse and there was a hairbrush, some lip gloss, and a pair of her brother's underpants. She wasn't going to let him be upset again, not if she could help it.

We should all be blessed with having someone that concerned with our well being. Sometimes it takes seeing things through the eyes of a child to make us aware of our own shortcomings. Maybe we should all do that something special, go that extra mile, make that extra effort for someone we love. We should have their back in the event something happens.

We should all figuratively pack that extra pair of underpants - just in case.
