"Who Killed the Cat?"
Oscar the cat is dead. The cause of death is unknown but unnamed sources say the cat may have been murdered. Now why would anyone want to kill a cat? Well in this case it might be just the slightest bit understandable.
Oscar was known as the "death cat." He lived in a nursing home and it was reported that when Oscar jumped up on a resident's bed and stayed there that person would soon die. It was written up in all the newspapers and talked about on radio and television shows. I am sure the residents at the nursing home heard about it too.
So here is this cat that brings with it a hint of death. It creeps down the hall on little cat's paws and spies its next victim. Up on the bed it hops and snuggles down for a wait. The person in the bed is not yet comatose. He or she looks down and the "death cat" is right there, probably grinning like a Cheshire cat. What would any normal person do?
It is reported there was a dented bedpan close to where Oscar was found. No one has claimed responsibility for the act although the name of Osama bin Laden has been mentioned. It was also mentioned the cat was hit eight more times to take care of any other lives that might be lurking within.
The point I see from this incident is how superstitious we all are. I mean how many of us would have wanted that cat on our bed even though rationally we know the cat couldn't kill. It is a wonder the cat lived as long as it did after the word got out on him.
I have never thought of myself as a person who believed in ghosts or spirits, BUT. We have a two-story house. Sometimes when I am walking up the stairs the light will just go on. This has happened over and over. It has gotten to the point that when it happens I say out loud, "Thanks, Mother." My wife and I are both convinced she is protecting us by turning on the light.
Then there is the case of the fan in the baby's room. A couple of years ago I was trying to change the speed of the fan and the chain that controlled that aspect of it broke off. For this reason we have not been able to use that fan at all.
Recently it has been so hot that in addition to the air conditioning I have been running all the upstairs fans. I kept wishing the one in the baby's room was workable. One day I went in, looked up and the chain for the fan in that room was attached again. Now I didn't fix it. I wouldn't know how to fix it. My wife says she didn't fix it. This was the kind of thing my father in law Joe always did for us.
Joe had not been at our house for a year or more before he died. And now a few months after his death the fan is fixed. We both think Joe did it. Call us crazy but we do.
Some people would be psyched out by these events. But I am not. I find comfort in them. They have made a believer out of me. That's the reason I can understand why the cat had to go! |
