A DAY IN MOSSY CREEK by Various Authors
The original MOSSY CREEK novel was created by Deborah Smith, Sandra Chastain, Virginia Ellis and Debra Dixon. It proved to be an immediate ht with readers and spawned fan clubs for this fictitious city all around the globe. Based on this success more
MOSSY CREEK books were published, all of them successful. Now it is time for the fifth book in the series A DAY IN MOSSY CREEK and it proves to be a worthy member of this collection of stories.
Susan Goggins, Carmen Green, Maureen Hardegree, Sabrina Jeffries, Carolyn McSparren, Dee Sterling and Wayne Dixon have added stories to this new collection and their writing styles blend perfectly with those of the ladies who started the series. They make this DAY one to write home about.
All of the stories in this latest book concern one "day" in the lives of people living in Mossy Creek, but most of them have Police Dispatcher Sandy Crane somewhere in the activity. She is out and about in the town, and has her finger on the pulse of most of what is happening. She rights wrongs, and sometimes has the wisdom of Solomon. Mossy Creek would be a duller place without her input.
Every one in Mossy Creek is a little eccentric, some more than others. Or maybe it should be said that they are all real characters. They go about living their lives, but all of the lives here connect in some way and make the little town a special place in which to live.
There are stories about many people contained herein, but the theme of the book could be the potential love affair between Mayor Ida Hamilton Walker and the Police Chief Amos Royden. Ida is fifty-two years old while Amos is thirty-six, but it doesn't bother him one lick. But it does bother her. She is trying not to become involved with Amos but he is in hot pursuit. Why in this book he even goes so far as to arrest her.
Love is a central theme of A DAY IN MOSSY CREEK. There is an especially poignant story about a teenager who needs to feel loved by his Aunt and Uncle. It takes a certain form of punishment to bring that to fruition. You'll have to read it to understand it.
Life goes on in Mossy Creek and the days of the lives of the people there are captured perfectly in this collection of stories. It takes special writers to bring these stories to life and none did it better than Virginia Ellis, to whom the latest book is dedicated.
The writers of the Mossy Creek series have done the town proud, and have opened their hearts to us and let us peer inside. You will laugh aloud at some of the stories, and shed a tear or two over the others. You might even do both at the same time. These stories are special, and so are these books. Get this latest one, but also make sure you have all the ones that preceded it. They are pure gold in the sense that they will enrich your life.
A DAY IN MOSSY CREEK tells us about a place that symbolizes all that is good in the US of A. We need to have a reminder every now and again. For my money A DAY IN MOSSY CREEK is one of the best we could have.
