A WEEK FROM SUNDAY by Dorothy Garlock
Dorothy Garlock is a writer who has found her niche. She writes stories about the 30’s and 40’s and she places them in locations where simple people abound. This is certainly the case with her latest A WEEK FROM SUNDAY. It tales place in the 30’s in a small town called Lee’s Point, Louisiana. With the time and location established Garlock is free to work her magic in her story.
A WEEK FROM SUNDAY concerns a young woman named Adrianna Moore. She is the only child of a wealthy father who dotes on her. When he falls ill she is completely attentive to his needs, but watching him means she can not keep an eye on his business. That job falls to his assistant Richard Pope.
When her father dies Pope comes to Adrianna with a proposal of marriage. She is horrified and rejects his offer, but he won’t take no for an answer. He tells her he has inherited her father’s business and wealth so she has got to marry him or starve to death. At this point Adrianna would prefer starvation.
She gets into her car and flees Shreveport and ends up in Lee’s Point. There she meets the Baxter brothers, Quinn and Jesse. They become important to her and somehow offer her a chance to hide out from Richard Pope. Still Pope is a determined man and he is committed to finding Adrianna even if he has to criss-cross the state town by town, city by city.
In Dorothy Garlock books there is always a vulnerable woman and a strong protective man. In A WEEK FROM SUNDAY we once again get both. As a testament to Garlock’s skills, Adrianna and Quinn are fresh and enchanting characters. You don’t feel you have heard their story before and you read rapidly in order to get this couple together and to solve their problems.
Any Garlock book is a blend of suspense and romance and A WEEK FROM SUNDAY is no exception. Adrianna and Quinn are characters you will enjoy meeting and who will hold your interest throughout the story. It is a “feel good” book that will leave you with a smile when their story ends.
Dorothy Garlock is an inventive writer, a talented writer, and a reliable writer. With her name on the cover you know what you are getting inside the pages. If you like stories that are a combination of suspense and romance you will not be disappointed by anything she writes. Her books are always good and A WEEK FROM SUNDAY is one of her best.
