ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK? By Sidney Sheldon

Sidney Sheldon is an amazing man. He has had a writing career that has spanned decades, and to this day he is turning out hit novels. His latest story, ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK?, sailed up the best seller lists as soon as it was released. It is a wild thriller that has a few too many illogical escapes by its lead characters, but it is still a fun read.

The book starts with three murders that are seemingly unconnected. Then two of the widows of the murdered men meet up and compare notes. It seems that the husbands of Kelly Harris and Diane Stevens both worked for an international think group called Kingsley International. The head of KIG (Kingsley International Group) Tanner Kingsley thinks the murders were a plot aimed at a group of his employees.

Kelly and Diane decide to do a bit of investigating on their own and soon they are facing death at every turn. Through sheer luck, or divine intervention, they manage to escape harm time after time but soon it seems their time of good fortune is coming to an end.

Sheldon does make his escapes by these two older Nancy Drews too easy and too illogical, but it does keep the plot exciting. He also manages to throw in a few doses of sexual activity to spice things up. Sex, suspense, and adventure - those were always the formula for Sheldon's best books.

This latest story is certainly not Sheldon's best one but it does show he still has the talent to keep readers interested and entertained. The fact he is able to do this after all these years is a tribute to his talent. Who knows how long he will write since there is obviously still a market for his stories.

ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK? Is published by William Morrow. It contains 337 pages and sells for $25.95.
