BAIT by Karen Robards

Karen Robards knows how to write romantic thrillers that keeps the plotlines active with red-hot romance and cold hard killings. Such is certainly the case in BAIT, her latest chiller. From page one to the last page Robards keeps the suspense going and the romance growing, and her fans will be more than thrilled with this latest effort. So should anyone else who happens to pick it up.

Maddie Fitzgerald is in New Orleans on business. She has this thing about being afraid of the dark so she is not sleeping well in her motel room. She finally turns on the bathroom light and then is able to drift into sleep. But suddenly she wakes up and realizes the light is off and there is someone in her room.

Maddie manages to escape from this trauma but there are many more in store for her as the story continues. It seems she might have been targeted by a serial killer. His inability to successfully murder her in New Orleans just makes him that much more determined to get it right the next time. And if that means following her to St Louis well that is where he will have to go.

It is also where Sam McCabe, an FBI Agent on the trail of the killer, heads. He knows the killer won't stop until Maddie is dead and he plans to use her as "bait" to draw him out. He doesn't want Maddie to get hurt but he is willing to take some risks as long as he can bring this maniac to justice.

Complicating matters even more is the fact Maddie has some secrets in her past. In fact the killer McCabe is hunting may not be the person who is trying to kill Maddie. She has angered the mob and they may have taken a hit out on her. The man who has killed a series of people in various cities may not have been aiming for Maddie at all.

If it all sounds complicated it is. It is also great fun to read. Plus when things between Maddie and Sam heat up it gets even more engrossing. They are a couple who exude heat and passion, even when they are in the middle of dire and dangerous circumstances.

For a totally fun and thrilling read, pick up BAIT by Karen Robards. It will hook you immediately, and then keep you on the edge of your seat as you wonder when the killer is going to strike again, and if Maddie and Sam can find true happiness. All the answers are in the pages of the book.

BAIT is published by G P Putnam's Sons. It contains 372 pages and sells for $24.95.
