I CAN SEE YOU by Karen Rose

Karen Rose is one of the best authors writing today in the genre of suspense. Plus she gives a female perspective to this kind of book that other authors lack. A perfect example is her latest novel I CAN SEE YOU. This book has a female at the center of the story and her views and perspectives come through loud and clear.

Eve Wilson works part time as bartender while working on her degree. She appreciates the fact she can have a measure of anonymity behind the bar as she doesn’t want anyone to get too close to her or question her about her private life. She figures people probably know more than she would want them to, and that means they have an idea about her past.

Police Detective Noah Webster has problems of his own in his past, but he is willing to let down his defenses if Eve will give him the time of day. She is not responsive to his friendly overtures and keeps him at arm’s length. But then they both get caught up in a series of horrendous murders. Noah is investigating them and Eve is the connecting factor between them.

This leads to Eve being pulled into a web of horror that threatens to get her killed. It is up to Noah to keep her safe and also to solve the crimes. But he can’t do it alone. He is going to need Eve’s participation even though that ups the chance of danger for her.

Rose’s book is a fairly long one but every page is necessary for the completeness of the story. There is no filler here, just the details required to make the reader fill he/she has gotten every description and every character necessary for the total picture. It is also a testament to Rose’s talent that the reader is never bored but is always reaching for the next page and the next twist in the story.

The characters also come to life within the realm of Rose’s words. They are fully drawn so that you know their cares, their passions, their hopes and their dreams. When one of the leading characters is in jeopardy the reader feels a complete sense of anticipation as to the outcome.

Karen Rose does not spare her readers when it comes to the elements she feels are needed to give the full impact of her tale. If horrific actions must be described to give the full force of the plot then she puts that in her book, and if nightmarish situations are required then they go into the plot too.

Best of all Karen Rose is a readable writer. You fly on her words from the beginning of the story until the end. They are crafted to move you forward and to keep you entertained. The story may be long but it is over before you know it.

For a way to pass a chilly autumn night you can’t do better than with a copy of Karen Rose’s I CAN SEE YOU. Lock the doors, set the alarm system, turn on all the lights and dive into it!
