SHADOW MUSIC by Julie Garwood

You can always count on author Julie Garwood for a good story be it about modern times or medieval ones. In her latest novel SHADOW MUSIC she sets her story in medieval Scotland. There she weaves a tale of brave men and beautiful women caught up in love and war. It is all a little predictable but to the millions of devoted Garwood fans it is perfect.

The heroine of this romantic story is Princess Gabrielle. She has been promised in marriage to one of the lairds of Scotland. Her father, an English Baron, approves of this union and sends Gabrielle to Scotland for the wedding. Once she arrives in Scotland she and her troop stumble upon an attempted murder. This plunges Gabrielle into the politics of the land.

As the story unfolds Gabrielle comes under the protection of Colm McHugh, one of the most powerful men in Scotland. He tries to protect her from her enemies and there are many of them that arise. It seems some people think she knows the secret to a missing cache of gold, and they want it.

As the tensions rise so does the attraction between Gabrielle and Colm. He is Scottish and she is English but love recognizes no barriers such as these. Their attraction for each other is stronger than any other force in their lives.

This is the type of story Garwood does best. There is romance, intrigue, physical danger, and a secret treasure. All of these elements play out in the story and keep the reader interested all the way through. It may be a bit simplistic in the telling but the entertainment value is assured from the very first page.

If you are a fan of Julie Garwood's writing skills SHADOW MUSIC will not disappoint. It is typical Garwood and for her many fans that is all it needs to be. She creates characters who live their passions, and though the road may be winding and difficult you are never doubtful how the story will end for them.
