THE SINNER by Tess Gerritsen
Tess Gerritsen continues her ongoing story about Detective Jane Rizzoli in the new thriller THE SINNER. This time out Jane is paired with medical examiner Maura Isles as both women try to solve the case of two nuns who have been violently beaten. One is dead while the other hangs on to life by a thread. It is a story full of suspense and terror, but it is also one of love and rebirth.
Homicide Detective Jane Rizzoli is called to the scene of a crime located at a convent in Boston. There she finds two bodies in a chapel. Both have been attacked brutally, but miraculously one has survived. Maura Isles is called to the scene and helps try to make some sense of the area and the attacks.
Later another body is found, and this one has had the hands and feet of the corpse removed. Maura works on this one too, but the case becomes stranger and stranger. Both Maura and Jane feel there is a connection between the murders but they are unable to discern what it is.
While working on the case both Jane and Maura are involved in relationships. Jane is still seeing Gabriel Dean, the FBI agent she met several books ago. Something is complicating their relationship and she doesn't know if they have a future or not.
Dr. Isles is being contacted by her ex-husband Victor Banks. She has avoided seeing him since their divorce but now he is trying to find a way back into her life. Surprisingly she finds she wants to see him again.
The murders and the romances are all part of this most involving book yet by Gerritsen. This time out she lets us have a true look at the private lives of the main characters, and in doing so makes them more vulnerable and approachable.
Anyone who starts THE SINNER will enjoy it. It is a fast paced, thriller that weaves its spell with its intricate detective work. Step by step and piece by piece the detective and the medical examiner follow the trial of the murderer until they find the solution to the crimes.
If you like interesting characters as well as intricate details of a crime case then THE SINNER is the book for you. Tess Gerritsen has written good books in the past but this one is her best in a while. Don't miss the pleasure of reading it.
