WHERE ROSES GROW WILD by Jan Wallace

Georgia's own Jan Wallace has written a memorable love story and it is titled WHERE ROSES GROW WILD. Readers who are fans of this genre will have a wonderful time as they learn the story of Guinevere and David. These two people meet and fall in love only to have fate tear them apart.

The book is reminiscent of the movies of the forties, such as "Portrait of Jennie" and "Love Letters." These characters seem cut from the same cloth as those who inhabited those tragic love stories. You can almost imagine Jennifer Jones and Joseph Cotton playing these roles too.

The book focuses on a writer named Paula and her neighbor Mrs. Morgan. Paula is a modern young woman who writes mysteries. Mrs. Morgan is her elderly neighbor. One day Mrs. Morgan offers Paula some diaries she has discovered in her attic. These are the ten volumes of a dairy written by a woman named Guinevere. She lived in the early 1900's and was in love with a man named David.

Sadly, due to family pressure and other circumstances; Paula ends up marrying a cruel man named John. This leads to a story of cruelty and betrayal that has shocking ramifications. It also makes for such a fascinating story that Paula funds herself unable to think of anything else except the diaries.

Jan Wallace weaves her story skillfully making each diary entry one of supreme importance. When the story switches back to the present and to Paula and Mrs. Morgan, the reader is anxious for it to return to the days of old and the engrossing love triangle.

This is a small book and one that can be read quickly. But it provides a large amount of reading enjoyment. If you like romantic stories then you are sure to enjoy this one.

WHERE ROSES GROW WILD is published by Port Town Publishing. It contains 169 pages and sells for $8.50.
