10 For 10

Last year was a great year at the movies. A lot of money was made and a lot of entertainment was provided. But moviegoers are people of the moment and of the future. 2009 is a memory and let’s move on is their mantra. So having reviewed a list of most of the upcoming movies for the new year I offer to you “My 10 For 10.” These are the 10 movies I am looking forward to seeing in 2010.

EDGE OF DARKNESS (January 29) – I have been a Mel Gibson fan for a long time and though I don’t think this film will be another “Braveheart” I do think it will be entertaining. Gibson gets back into the action/thriller mode and we all know how successful those “Lethal Weapon” movies were.

DEAR JOHN (February 5) – Channing Tatum is the hot guy in Hollywood these days, and Nicholas Sparks’ books are selling better than ever. If they stick to the story he wrote this one will be a weeper and a half. The only drawback is the casting of Amanda Seyfried as the female lead. Her charms are so far lost on me yet she seems to be in every other movie coming out of Hollywood these days.

VALENTINE’S DAY (February 12) – This movie has everybody and their brother in it, from Julia Roberts to Kathy Bates, from Ashton Kutcher to Bradley Cooper. It looks like it could be a lot like “Love Actually,” one of my all time favorite movies. We will see.

SHUTTER ISLAND (February 19) – This Leonardo Di Caprio drama was supposed to be released last year in time for Oscar consideration, but then was suddenly pulled from the schedule and pushed back till February. So there may be some problems with it. Still with Martin Scorcese directing Leonardo in a movie based on a Dennis Lehane novel I will give it the benefit of the doubt.

WALL STREET 2 (April 23) – Michael Douglas returns as Gordon Gekko and that is enough to get me interested. Shia Lebeouf co-stars but Charlie Sheen is also scheduled to make an appearance. Plus it has Carey Mulligan straight off her new found fame and respect from “An Education.” Sounds like a winner to me. Oh yes, Oliver Stone is the director again.

IRON MAN 2 (May 7) – At this point in time Robert Downey, Jr can do no wrong. He has this franchise plus the “Sherlock Holmes” franchise and he is the reason both exist and are successful. Plus in this movie the villain is played by Mickey Roarke. This is the perfect movie to kick off the summer blockbusters.

ROBIN HOOD (May 14) – Not as sure a thing as “Iron Man 2,”but Russell Crowe in full action mode should be great to watch. Plus you have Cate Blanchett as Maid Marian. With Ridley Scott at the helm I am pretty assured of its value.

FOOTLOOSE (June 18) – Summer time is the perfect time for this remake to be released. With Chace Crawford in the Kevin Bacon role there is a solid draw for the teen-age girls, but maybe Zac Efron would have been a more bankable lead. Still adding Julianne Hough to the cast was a stroke of genius. Just think if all those “Dancing With the Stars” fans show up. It will go through the roof.

SALT (July 23) – Two words will assure my attendance – Angelina Jolie. In this film she is back in action figure mode as a CIA Agent. She alone managed to make “Wanted” a winner and I think she will do the same with this one.

BURLESQUE (November 24) – Christina Aguilera teams up with Cher for this end of the year musical. It has been five faces ago that Cher made a movie and I am eagerly awaiting her return. It is either going to be super good or super bad. With Cher there are no in betweens.
So there you have my 10. I know your list probably looks different but after all it is “In My Humble Opinion.”
