"Angela's Eyes" (Lifetime)
Abigail Spencer of daytime TV's soap opera "All My Children" stars in the new series on the Lifetime Channel titled "Angela's Eyes." Spencer is a real beauty and a doggoned good actress to boot. This combination, plus a solid storyline, should be enough to attract viewers to the series. And once they have fallen under Angela/Abigail's spell they will keep returning.
Angela Henson (Spencer) is an FBI agent who works with a team composed of her partners, Leo (Lyriq Bent) and Dozer (Joe Cobden), and their boss Gene (Rick Roberts). Angela's specialty is determining whether or not a person is lying. She does this by watching eye movements, facial changes, body movements, etc. She is so good she is called a human "lie detector."
Angela also has a dark past. Her parents, Colin (Boyd Gaines) and Lydia (Alberta Watson) were convicted of being spies against the US government. They are both serving life terms in prison. Angela also has a brother Jerry (Paul Popovich) with whom she is somewhat estranged.
Each week's show has Angela involved in a case where her special talents are of use. And each week the viewer learns a little more about Angela's family. This personalization of the character adds to the enjoyment of the show.
The ability to perceive a lot about people based on their actions is the gimmick in "Angela's Eyes." This is not a new concept for television however as it is used on "The Closer" and "Psych." But neither of those shows has Abigail Spencer and she is the secret weapon here. "The Closer's" Kyra Sedgwick is cute and quirky but she is not sexy and smoldering like Spencer; and "Psych" has a guy in the lead.
Tune into "Angela's Eyes" each Sunday night at 10 on the Lifetime Channel. It won't take long before you are hooked on this star and this show. |
