"Three Moons Over Milford" (ABC Family Channel)
"Three Moons Over Milford" is a new original series premiering on the ABC Family Channel this month. It is a quirky look at families in a small town and the dysfunctional relationships they contain. Elizabeth McGovern, Nora Dunn and Rob Boltin star in this uniquely original series.
The glue that holds the stories of "Milford" together is the splintering of the moon into three parts. As the series opens this phenomenon has already occurred through some sort of cosmic explosion. The people on earth are coping from day to day but their lives are being lived in a reaction to this event.
Laura Davis (McGovern) and her children are impacted by this event. Daughter Lydia (Teresa Celentano) becomes a member of a
wiccan group and practices black magic. Son Sam (Alex Davis) gets involved with a young woman (Claire Ling) some six years his senior.
Laura turns to town attorney Mack McIntyre (Boltin) when Lydia accidentally burns down the public high school. Mack has his own problems as his mother has sold his house out from under him in order to force him to take a vacation. Realtor Michelle Graybar (Dunn) refuses to sell it back to him.
This is an enjoyable series because even if they are a little odd, these people are all likeable. Plus the acting is above average with McGovern being the focal point. She handles the role with talent and charm. Boltin and Dunn also impress with their skills.
McGovern hasn't been seen in many movies lately but it should be remembered that when she made her debut in the movie "Ragtime" she received an Academy Award nomination as Best Supporting Actress.
"Three Moons Over Milford" is scheduled to run for eight weeks with the possibility of more episodes at a later date. It isn't one of the most dynamic programs on TV but it does have a certain charm. You might want to try it out and decide for yourself as to whether or not it is worth your time.
"Three Moons Over Milford" premieres on the ABC Family Channel, August 6 at 8PM. |
