"Army Wives" (Lifetime)
The Lifetime Channel has hit a gold mine of entertainment with its new series "Army Wives." This show about the spouses of modern day Army men and women is full to the brim with interesting and intriguing characters. Kim Delaney and Brian McNamara head the cast of this totally enjoyable series. So plan to spend your Sunday nights at ten in front of your TV sets watching the sexy and dramatic series "Army Wives."
Delaney and McNamara play Claudia Joy and Michael Holden. He is an Army Colonel assigned to a base in Charleston, South Carolina. Claudia Joy thought her husband was going to make Brigadier General but a scheming wife spread some untrue rumors about him and got her own husband selected instead. Claudia Joy is not the type to forgive and forget so there will be a payment exacted for this debt.
Meanwhile a free spirit named Roxy (Sally Pressman) arrives on the base. After a whirlwind courtship she married Army soldier Trevor LeBlanc (Drew Fuller). She now has to get adjusted to marriage and Army life at the same time. It is obvious from the word go that Roxy is not going to be your typical Army wife.
Then there is Denise Sherwood (Catherine Bell). She is an Army wife who keeps showing up with bruises on her arm. Is she an abused wife or just a klutz? That is the question everyone wants answered.
There are even more characters in this show and all of them are interesting. Using the modern day Army as a backdrop for these soap operish goings on is pure brilliance. Anyone who tunes in for a glance at the show is going to be hooked forever. Not only are the story lines involving, the acting is of the highest caliber.
I would watch Kim Delaney read the phone book. So when I get the chance to see her in something this good I am fascinated. Brian McNamara proved his worth in the TV series "China Beach" and has been searching for another good role ever since that series went off the air. He has found it.
"Jag" showcased the talents of Catherine Bell but this series shows a more vulnerable side to her. From the moment we see Denise we are on her side. She seems to be a victim but one with whom we can stand united behind.
Sally Pressman is a young Kyra Sedgwick (sorry, Kyra). Her role as Roxy is a star-making one and she plays it to the hilt. When she is on view you can't watch anyone else.
The plot points get made in the first episode and hold viewers eager to learn what is going to be happening next. With the network series on hiatus for the summer this is the perfect time to get addicted to "Army Wives."
This show premieres on Lifetime, June 3 at 10 PM and airs new episodes every following Sunday at 10. Watch them all from the very start. |
