"Blood Ties" (Lifetime)
Lifetime is bringing back its original series "Blood Ties" for a second season. This series is full of the supernatural as it involves ghosts, vampires, etc. The heroine is Vicki Nelson, a cop turned private investigator who has a four hundred fifty year old vampire as her partner. He is also an heir of Henry VIII. Things stay complicated in Vicki's life as she puts up with her weird friends and associates and, oh yes, solves crimes.
In the first new episode of the year, titled "D.O.A", Vicki (Christina Cox) gets a new client. He is a policeman who was working undercover up until the time of his death. Now he is a ghost but he can't find his body. And as Vicki gets deeper in the case she finds "the body" may still be part of the living community but with another occupant.
Vicki enlists the aid of her partner Henry (Kyle Schmidt" and her ex-partner on the police force Mike (Dylan Neal). Henry uses his vampire knowledge of supernatural lore while Mike uses human investigative techniques.
This series could do with a little "star power" as Cox, Schmidt and Neal are not household names. Maybe they will grow on the audience but as for now they are still in the developmental stage. They are interesting enough but not compelling.
There also isn't enough shock value in the story. Ghosts and vampires need to instill fear when they are part of a straight dramatic series. That doesn't happen here, at least not yet. Also the special effects seen in "D. O. A" are a little cheesy.
"Blood Ties" attracted enough of an audience to merit a second season, but it is going to have to deliver more than quirkiness to make this year a success. Cox and company have their work cut out for them. Here's hoping they rise to the challenge.
"Blood Ties" starts its second season on Friday, October 12 at 11PM on Lifetime. |
