"Doctor Who" (Sci Fi Channel)
"Doctor Who" returns to the Sci Fi Channel for its third season. David Tennant returns in the lead role but this year he has a new partner. Her name is Martha Jones and she is played by Freema Agyeman. Martha Jones makes her entrance in the second episode titled "Smith and Jones."
The kick-off episode is titled "The Runaway Bride" and features a sharp performance by Catherine Tate. Tate plays a woman named Donna who is mysteriously transported to Dr. Who's traveling spaceship on her wedding day. One moment she is going down the aisle and the next she is in the box that doubles as a spaceship.
Donna and the Doctor make a delightful pair but even though they share a wild adventure she is not the one chosen to become his new traveling companion. That honor belongs to Ms. Jones who the doctor meets in the second episode. It is a good thing that she is also delightful or audiences would greatly miss Ms Tate.
Tennant is perfectly cast as the bizarre doctor who is from another planet. He has the quirky looks and actions to make this man both odd and endearing. Anyone who attempts to play the role of Doctor Who must have both of these traits.
So tune in to the Sci Fi Channel on Friday, July 6 at 8PM. That is when the new series will debut with a ninety minute special titled 'The Runaway Bride." The second episode titled "Smith and Jones" will follow at 9:30 PM. In the following weeks "Doctor Who" will appear on the Sci Fi Channel each Friday at 9PM. |
