"Eureka" (Sci Fi Channel)

"Eureka," the quirky comedy/drama, returns for its second season on the Sci Fi Channel. Picking up where last year's series of events ended, "Eureka" continues to tell the story of a town that is in actuality a government experiment. Colin Ferguson, Salli Richardson-Whitfield and Joe Morton head the cast once more and they all turn in solid performances.

The show was headed toward a more serious side when it ended last year and it appears that theme will continue. Sheriff Jack Carter (Ferguson) is still in love with Allison Blake (Richardson-Whitfield) but she won't give him the time of day. This frustrates Carter no end because he has lived through the future once and knows they are fated to be mated.

Henry Deacon (Morton) who lost his true love Kim in the first season is still grieving. He and Carter are best friends and share the knowledge of the future that they have lived. He resents Jack for canceling that future he arranged but is trying to live with that knowledge.

The company psychiatrist (Debrah Farentino) is still around planning and plotting evil schemes. Farentino is one of my favorites on the show and I hope she sticks around all season. She dominates any scene in which she appears.

Despite the appeal of Farentino, the show does not have anything to offer to make it more than mildly appealing. All of the actors are good in their roles but the characters have never really caught on with the viewing public. The fact "Eureka" even got renewed is something of a surprise.

Still if somehow this blend of quirky and dramatic has caught your eye you will want to tune in to the Sci Fi Channel on July 10 at 9PM. This is when "Eureka" will kick off another season that will include thirteen one-hour episodes.
