"Fallen" (ABC Family)

Last year the ABC Family Channel presented what was seemingly a pilot for a TV series. It was titled "Fallen" and it starred Paul Wesley as a young man who is part human and part angel. Now ABC Family has announced this was not a proposed series but in actuality was the first part of a mini-series.

The mini-series tells the full story of how Aaron (Wesley) is contacted and told of his special destiny. He then goes on a trek around the country to find other "fallen angels" and send them back to Heaven. It is rumored that Aaron is "the Redeemer" who will bring an end to all battles between the fallen angels and the full fledged ones.

All of this plot is too complicated to try to relate here, but the adventure it incorporates is pretty exciting with the angels fighting each other and Aaron trying to find his place in everything. He also meets up with another angel who becomes his love interest (Fernanda Andrade) as well as an evil angel named Azazel (Hal Ozsan) who wants to destroy him. There is even an appearance by Bryan Cranston 0f "Malcolm In the Middle" fame as Lucifer, and we all know who he is.

The mini-series is based on the books by Thomas E Sniegoski. They capture the essence of his writings and make this a mini-series teens should especially enjoy. For the rest of us it is okay entertainment but a little extreme in its presentation. Wesley is a likeable lead actor but the rest of the cast is pretty much run of the mill.

If you have a taste for a sci fi series with angelic overtones then this is the mini-series for you. It is six hours worth of religious occurrences and apocalyptic battles. Wesley has star potential but this is not the series to make him a household name. This show is a little like "Kyle XY" but more bizarre.

The first part of "Fallen" repeats on ABC Family, August 3 at 8PM and the second two parts air August 4 and 5 at the same time.
