"Greek" (ABC Family)
The ABC Family channel has a new original series premiering this month. It is titled "Greek" and it is a comedy starring Jacob Zachor, Spencer Grammer, and Scott Michael Foster. The story takes place on a college campus and has an "Animal House" look and feel to it. Whether this will go over with audiences looking for "family" entertainment remains to be seen.
In the opening episode we meet Casey (Grammer), a leader on the sorority scene. Her boyfriend is a guy named Evan (Jake McDorman) and everybody says they are the hot couple on campus. Casey's worst nightmare comes true when her brother Rusty (Zachor) shows up on campus as a freshman. Rusty is the total antithesis of Casey yet he wants to hang out with her.
In this episode we also see Rusty's efforts at getting a bid for a fraternity. At the "animal house" fraternity he meets Cappy (Foster) who is an old boyfriend of Casey's. For this reason alone Rusty stands a chance of making it in. But then there is also Evan's fraternity and the same logic (his sister) might get him an offer there.
All of this centers around Rusty's character and it is not yet known or shown whether there will be enough appeal to this loveable shmuck to garner an audience's attention. So far it seems the audience will be in Casey's corner wand want this dufus to just go away.
This also seems a strange series to be airing on ABC Family. There is a glimpse of nudity, a lot of drug and alcohol references, and a huge amount of sexual references and situations. That hardly seems to be something the whole "family" would enjoy.
"Greek" premieres July 9 at 9PM. There are a lot of new shows on the cable networks this summer. This is one of ABC Family's many offerings. Try it out. |
