"More Of Me" (Lifetime)
Molly Shannon gets a chance to show how versatile an actress she is when she plays four roles in "More of Me," a Lifetime original movie airing this month. Shannon has always been known as a bright comedienne because of her work on "Saturday Night Live," but in this film she gets to show her comedic and more serious talents.
Shannon plays Alice McGrath, a loving wife, devoted mother of two children, and an activist. Her latest project is protecting a large tree that is in the way of a proposed bridge project in her city. The bridge is being designed by her husband Rex (Steven Webber) who works for the Mayor.
With doing all her household chores, taking care of the kids, spearheading the "Save the Tree" project, and trying to be a good wife; Alice is on the verge of a breakdown. Then magically she becomes four people who all look the same. The "real" her has become invisible but her alter egos can be seen clearly.
There is the business Alice who takes care of the tree project. Then there is the motherly Alice who takes care of the kids. Finally there is the sensuous Alice who takes care of Rex. Unfortunately none of the three separate personalities care anything about the others. They are all single-minded about their responsibilities.
As the three other Alices do their thing, the real Alice is left to worry about the overall impact this is having on her life. She needs to pull herself together and get her life/lives back on track. The problem is the other three Alices don't want to quit.
In this day of special effects, the appearances of the four Alices are seamless. They communicate with each other and share the screen. Each has a distinct personality provided by Shannon and all are fun to watch - especially the flirtatious Alice. Webber is a good co-star for Shannon and gets into the fun of the project.
The movie gets a little slow in the middle but picks back up before it ends. Shannon and Webber make it a fun film for the family and a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours.
"More of Me" premieres Saturday, November 17 at 9PM on Lifetime Television. |
