"Stargate Atlantis" (Sci Fi Channel)

There are not that many sci-fi space adventures on TV these days, but we still have "Stargate Atlantis" which recently started its new season on the Sci Fi Channel. This long running tale of aliens and asteroids mixed with bold warriors and state of the art special effects is more satisfying than it has ever been.

Joe Flanigan leads a great cast as Lt. Colonel John Sheppard. He is the leader of the spaceship Atlantis that is in actuality a full city that can speed through space. But since it is in an alien universe through which they are hurtling and exploring the dangers inherent to them are totally unknown. Each new day brings another challenge for Sheppard and his comrades, and their problems must be made quickly and accurately or destruction will find them.

Flanigan is the best thing about the show. He has that "accidental hero" thing going great guns and always seems to be cool in any situation while plausibly handling anything thrown at him. This season he is joined by Amanda Tapping as Colonel Samantha Carter. We can expect some good interaction from them - and possibly some romance in the future?

"Stargate Atlantis" also has super special effects. With technology being so advanced these days, we sometimes take for granted just how amazing it is to have new universes created for us. On this show the acting, the action, and the look are all first rate.

So tune in each week and watch the adventures of this band of brothers and sisters who make their way into new worlds and new adventures. It is entertaining and amazing. You can't beat that combination.

"Stargate Atlantis" airs each Friday night at 10PM on the Sci Fi Channel.
