"The Bill Engvall Show" (TBS)

Bill Engvall has been a fixture on the "Blue Collar Comedy Tour." Now he has moved into series television on TBS with a show titled (drum roll please) "The Bill Engvall Show." This new series is less blue collar and more Tim Allen. It isn't the funniest comedy to ever come down the pike but it is pleasant enough to attract an audience.

On the show Engvall plays Bill Pearson, a Denver family therapist. He has a wife named Susan (Nancy Travis) and three kids. It seems that in this marriage both the mother and the father are a little bit lost when it comes to raising kids. They aren't clueless but they do have a lot to learn.

Engvall has an enjoyable comic touch as he muddles through a variety of situations. He delivers his lines with a slightly sardonic air, and his reactions are even better than his actions. Opposite him Travis shines. For an actress who was never really cut out for comedy, she has improved immensely. Plus she and Engvall have real chemistry together.

The kids are played by Jennifer Lawrence, Graham Patrick Martin and Skyler Gisondo. Each of them gets some screen time each week, and so far they have been appealing kids. Not a loser in this bunch.

"The Bill Engvall Show" is a relaxing half-hour and should draw an audience. If Tim Allen could do it with his TV family then Engvall should be able to do it with his. And you know Jeff Foxworthy is going to be a guest star any day now.

So for family fun tune into "The Bill Engvall Show." It premieres Tuesday, July 17 at 9PM on TBS. Sit the whole family down and watch it. It does have some funny moments.
