"The Murder of Princess Diana" (Lifetime)
Lifetime's original movie "The Murder of Princess Diana" is a fictionalized account of the theories presented by Noel Botham in his book of the same name. This movie lays out a plot to kill one of the most famous women in world history and does it in such a way that it is sure to inflame the fires of those who think such an event came true.
Jennifer Morrison plays Rachel Visco, a reporter who travels to Paris when she learns Diana and Dodi Fayed will be visiting there and staying at the Ritz. Once she arrives she is astounded by the various secret service and intelligence types from all across Europe and the United States who are there. She also runs into Thomas Sylvestre (Gregori Derangere) who is working for the French Police.
Shortly after she arrives the "accident" which killed Diana occurs. Rachel is following the car in which Diana and Dodi are riding and knows the paparazzi did not cause the accident. She tries to tell the police this, but they are not interested. She goes to Thomas with her suspicions and the two of them begin an effort to find out the truth.
The movie has an interesting premise and it is all presented in a way to make you accept the "truth" as being what is in the film. But how much is fact and how much is fiction is unknown. The case is still being tried in the press so maybe someday the truth will come out.
Morrison is satisfactory as the determined girl reporter. Her acting abilities fluctuate from bad to good in the movie but she does hold your interest. Opposite her Derangere is charming as the French policeman. There isn't a lot of chemistry between these two actors and the love story only serves to slow down the other parts of the film.
There are a lot of people who eat up anything concerning Diana, so this movie will have them salivating in expectation. They won't be disappointed. There are enough "facts" presented her to make any Diana "conspiracy" fanatic swoon with excitement.
"The Murder of Princess Diana" premieres Saturday, August 25 at 9PM on the Lifetime Channel. |
