"Write & Wrong" (Lifetime)
Kirstie Alley shows why star power is important in the new original movie "Write & Wrong" which premieres on Lifetime, June 3. Without a star of her power this lightweight comedy about scriptwriting in Hollywood would have no appeal. But make Alley the focus and you have a two-hour movie worth watching.
Alley plays Byrdie Langdon, a screenplay writer who has seen better days. Some might say she had a drinking problem while others might say her nerves got bad. For whatever reason she went missing from the Hollywood scene for a few years. Now she is back with some new ideas and ready to work.
The problem is everyone who is working in Hollywood in power positions seems to think everyone over the age of twenty-nine is ancient. No one wants to work with Byrdie and no one wants her scripts. At first Byrdie contemplates plastic surgery but then she decides just to get even.
To get revenge she decides to use her nephew Justin (Eric Christian Olsen). She has him shop her scripts around under his name. He is young and handsome so Hollywood of course greets him with open arms. It looks like the perfect scheme is going to work but then things get complicated. Instead of the villains getting their comeuppance, some innocent people get thrown to the wolves.
Kirstie is the star of this show and she is great. She can take the simplest words of dialogue and twist them into comic gems. She has perfect timing and creates a totally believable character. Olsen is also quite good in his role of Justin. He is young, eager and brash which is just what the role requires.
The plot of the movie is not that good. It seems to be trite and not worth delving into. Still Alley and Olsen manage to give it a few twists and turns that makes it all appealing. In the end "Write & Wrong" is a watchable and enjoyable movie.
"Write & Wrong" premieres on Lifetime, June 3 at 8PM. |
