“Black Gold” (Tru TV)

“The Deadliest Catch” and “Ice Road Truckers” have proven to be two of the most popular reality series on the air lately. Now the producers of those shows have come up with a new one – “Black Gold.” This show takes you to the West Texas oil fields to watch three different groups race to drill for a supply of crude oil. It is a race for money and a race against danger. It doesn’t get more real than this.

There are three companies trying to drill in the same area in West Texas. Whichever one of them strikes oil first wins the big prize. This show allows us to watch the workers on the rigs do their job and risk their lives. It is work that pays a good salary but it is also work that is tough and dangerous.

On each rig there is a chief driller. He is the man who has to be the expert in all things. If he messes up someone could be injured or worst case scenario, be killed. Each of the three drillers seen want to keep their men safe. They feel very paternal about them. They run tight ships and don’t put up with any fooling around.

For the owners of the equipment the stakes are high. On each drill site the money pours out as the pipe goes in. There are millions to be won and millions to be lost. That is what adds to the excitement of the show as you watch to see who is going to win and how big.

This is reality TV at the highest level. “Black Gold” is like watching a John Wayne movie but everything happening is real. It’s a rough world with rough men working on these sites. The pay is good but the risks are high – and the TV entertainment is also high.

“Black Gold” premieres Wednesday, June 18 at 10PM on Tru TV. Watch it for sights and sounds you have never seen on TV before. This is a race for the gold – “Black Gold.”
