"Fire and Ice” (Sci Fi Channel)
For their Saturday night movie on October 18, the Sci Fi Channel has selected “Fire and Ice.” This is a tale of warriors and dragons as well as evildoers and good men. There is also a beautiful princess who figures into the plot. As lightweight entertainment goes this is a pleasant enough way to spend a Saturday night “at the movies.”
The story takes place in a kingdom where a good king (Arnold Vosloo) rules. He has a beautiful daughter named Lucia (Amy Acker). She is his only child and the heir to the throne. Her mother wants her to concentrate on finding a husband but that is not where Lucia’s priorities are. She wants to get to know the people of her kingdom and learn how to rule it.
One day a fierce fire dragon swoops down from the sky and terrorizes the kingdom. The people and the king are unable to fight it off. Lucia learns of a knight who once killed a dragon and she goes in pursuit of him. She finds a man named Gabriel (Tom Wisdom) who is the dead knight’s son.
Together they try to come up with a plan to rid the kingdom of the dragon and bring peace to their world. It’s a tough order but together they can do it. Or at least they will give it their all.
The acting in the movie is mediocre. No one in the cast will win any awards, but neither will they get any booby prizes. The special effects are a little better than the story and the acting, with the battle of two dragons – one of fire and one of ice – making for an exciting viewing experience.
So gather the family around the television set and watch a tale of bravery and treachery, of princesses and dragons. It is a fairy tale type of story brought to life. Watch it, enjoy it and then forget it.
“Fire & Ice” premieres on the Sci Fi Channel, October 18 at 9PM. |
