“Frank TV” (TBS)
Impressionist Frank Caliendo returns for a new season of “Frank TV” on TBS. This show spotlights the talents and imagination of one of the most gifted impressionists in the entertainment world today. His show features him appearing as everyone from Bill Clinton to Donald Trump and he hits them all head on.
“Frank TV” is a series of segments featuring Caliendo as a variety of famous people. In the first show of the season he gets down and dirty with Clinton and Al Gore. It is a takeoff on Oliver Stone’s new film “W” and is just about perfect. If only all the sketches were as good as this one.
That is the problem with Caliendo’s show. Some of the sketches are hilarious and some of them are just flat. You have a bunch of losers mixed in with the winners. Still you have to give Frank credit, all the impressions are very good. The fault is in the comedy writing.
Also it should be noted that “Frank TV” comes on late at night for a reason. Some of the skits can get just a little risqué. He doesn’t actually get down and dirty like some of today’s comedians, he just throws in a tad of adult humor.
Frank Caliendo is a comic find and his show this year seems to be a good bit better than last years. If you like seeing a man with huge talent as an impressionist then you won’t want to miss a single episode of “Frank TV.”
“Frank TV” premieres October 21 at 11PM on TBS. |
