“Lost City Raiders” (Sci Fi Channel)
Ian Somerhalder of “Lost” fame tries for some Indiana Jones action in an original film for the Sci Fi Channel titled “Lost City Raiders.” He co-stars along with James Brolin and Ben Cross in this tale about a world of the future where global warming has taken its toll and the waters of the earth have risen causing rampant flooding. And no Al Gore did not produce this film.
The time is 2048 but you would never know it by the clothes, equipment or anything else. The world looks just the same except there is a lot of water everywhere. Pa Kubiak (Brolin) and his two sons Jack (Somerhalder) and Tommy (Jamie Thomas King) work off their boat and try to find a way to reverse the rising waters.
Pa is in close touch with the Vatican. People there think a scepter from ages past is the only hope for the future. This is the scepter (or so they say) that Moses used to part the Red Sea. The whole movie concerns the hunt for the scepter.
The Kubiak men are in competition with Nicholas Filiminov (Cross) to find the scepter. Filiminov is being helped by Jack’s old girlfriend Giovanna (Bettina Zimmerman). Unknown to her Filiminov wants the scepter so he can hold the rest of the world ransom.
There is a lot of action in this movie but not enough to overcome the clunky acting of all parties involved. Plus the plot is just by the numbers adventure. Even the title is a rip-off as the story has nothing to do with a “lost city.”
For the casual viewer this movie might have some entertainment value but for anyone looking for more than run of the mill, this is one to put aside for a later day.
“Lost City Raiders” premieres on the Sci Fi Channel on Saturday, November 22 at 9PM. |
