“Mom’s Cooking” (Lifetime)
Lifetime Television has a new reality series that combines personality with cooking skills. It is called “Mom’s Cooking” and in each episode sent for preview a daughter learns some special family dishes from her mother. Joe Corsano, or Joe C as he is called on the show, is the moderator and moves the conversation and the cooking along.
On the first episode Joe C conspires with Lauren to surprise her mother Lorraine. Lauren wants to learn how to cook her mother’s manicotti as well as a side dish and dessert. These two ladies are Italian and cooking is a natural skill in their family.
In the next episode sent for preview Joe C travels to Atlanta where he meets Mistee. Again he conspires with the daughter to get the mother to show and share her cooking secrets. Mistee’s mother Sherry is an expert at cooking ham, blackberry cobbler and especially fried okra. As you can tell Sherry is a southern cook through and through.
What makes these shows special is the personality of the women involved. The two mothers in these shows were natural “stars” as they talked with ease as they cooked with gusto. The success of this show will depend on how many outgoing women the staff can find who are also excellent cooks.
For now they are batting a thousand as Sherry and Lorraine could have cooking shows of their own and put Rachel Ray and Paula Deen to shame. Joe C has to grow on you but the two women will have you at hello.
“Mom’s Cooking premieres Monday, December 1 at 11AM on Lifetime. There is a second episode following at 11:30 and new episodes will air Monday through Friday. There is going to be a lot of cooking inspired by this show – and a lot of mother/daughter bonding too. |
