“Prison Break” (Fox)
Let me say categorically that I have been a “Prison Break” fan since the first show in the first season. I watched faithfully as Michael (Wentworth Miller) entered prison to try to rescue his brother Lincoln (Dominic Purcell) who was on death row. I saw them hatch a plan to escape and then they did escape only to be recaptured and sent to some Panamanian Prison.
Now they are out again and are working for the government to try and bring down a sadistic group known as The Company. This is the theme of this season and this season is the best yet, so far. The main reason is they have Sara (Sarah Wayne Callies) back on the show. It was thought she had been decapitated by her captor, Gretchen (Jodi Lynn O’Keefe” but that turned out to be false.
Now Sarah is part of the team that includes Lincoln and Michael as well as Mahone (William Fichtner), Bellick (Wade Williams), Sucre (Amaury Nolasco) and a computer expert named Roland (James Hiroyuki Liao). T-Bag (Robert Knepper) is still a part of the show but when he will make contact with the team is not known at this time.
Two new characters have been added and they are Homeland Security Agent Don Self (Michael Rapaport) and Company assassin Wyatt (Cress Williams). Both of these guys add to the overall intensity and thrill of the show.
This season the show seems to be operating at an even faster pace than in the past. There is one tight spot after another and then there is an ominous nosebleed suffered by Michael. Does this portend some horrible health crises for him – and does this mean he and Sara will never end up happily ever after? Who knows, but I will be tuning in to see.
The acting on “Prison Break” has never been singled out for awards though it is the best TV offers. Miller, Knepper, Callies and now Rapaport are at their best week after week. Still the best of performance on the show is the one offered up each week by Fichtner. He makes Mahone a heart-breaking character as he seems to suffer more than anyone else. Fichtner makes you feel his pain.
So tune in to “Prison Break” this year. It is the most overall adventurous, enjoyable, horrifying, and romantic program on the air. You will find yourself eagerly anticipating each and every new episode.
“Prison Break” airs on Fox Monday nights at 9 EST. |
