"Ten Items Or Less" (TBS)
"Ten Items Or Less" is one of the silliest comedies you will ever see. It's storyline and characters are predictable from beginning to end, and the jokes are corny and stupid. Still this sitcom about competing supermarkets struck my funnybone time and time again.
The best thing this TBS series has going for it is the incomparable Jennifer Elise Cox. She plays Amy and once you see her you will recognize her. One of these days this woman is going to be a break-out star. She is just biding her time in shows like this one but when she finds the right role in the right project watch out!
Also good is John Lehr who plays Leslie the manager of "Greens & Grains." He is the person in charge so to speak but he is ridiculously inept. His merry band of employees are even worse than he is so he has job security.
Others in the cast are Roberta Valderrama, Bob Clendenin, Kirsten Gronfield and Chris Payne Gilbert. Each adds his/her own wacky touch to the proceedings. Since the show is part scripted and part improvised the actors all have to be on their toes.
In the first episode Leslie was trying to set up a wind machine to blow around silver dollars. He finally figured out he needed paper dollars in order for them to circulate inside the booth. That action demonstrates his level of intelligence.
This half hour comedy is seen each Tuesday night at 11 on TBS. This is its second season so someone besides me must enjoy it. It is definitely one of my most guilty pleasures and it might just make you laugh too, so give it a try. And remember to watch for Jennifer Elise Cox. She's a keeper! |
