“World’s Funniest Commercials” (TBS)
Every year we have this show titled “World’s Funniest Commercials” on TBS, and each time it airs people watching ask, “Shouldn’t it be funnier?” I mean if these are the funniest commercials in the world then we are in a world of hurt. That is not to say some of them aren’t funny, but some of them are just stale.
Kevin Nealon and his wife Susan Yeagley co-host this show and they have a little bit of conversation about the commercials. In truth they try to be funny and in truth they aren’t. Sometimes their dialogue is almost painful and it is never relevant to the commercials that follow. Brave people that they are, they keep coming back year after year.
Last year some of the commercials shown were side-splitting funny but there are no side splitters on this year’s show. It must have been a bad year in the commercial world. Even the commercials this show rates the top three are only mildly amusing.
It always strikes me as funny that Americans love to TiVo shows so they can fast forward through the commercials, yet this show which is made up totally of commercials continues to draw a fairly big audience each year. That is just strange.
If you want a few laughs you will find them in this show, but you won’t find anything hilarious. They may be the “world’s funniest” but they aren’t the best and funniest ever made.
