“12 Men of Christmas” (Lifetime)
The only reason to watch Lifetime’s original movie “12 Men of Christmas” is to revel in the talent of diminutive, dazzling and delightful Kristin Chenoweth. The star of Broadway’s “Wicked” casts a spell of glee as she traipses through a silly story about a New York duck out of water in living in Montana.
E.J. Baxter (Chenoweth) has a great job in PR in New York until she finds her fiancé making out with her boss. She quits her high paying job and soon finds herself blacklisted in New York City. The only job available is one in Kalispell, Montana where she will be expected to lure corporate retreats.
E.J. has a hard time adapting to the calm life in Montana but her assistant Jan (Anna Chlumsky) helps her adjust. E.J. figures she can endure anything for a year and at that time she will go back to New York.
One thing Montana does have is handsome men and one of the most handsome is a guy named Will (Josh Hopkins). The problem is that E.J. and Will are like oil and water, they just don’t mix. Josh thinks she is a snob and E.J. thinks he is an idiot. It’s that old love/hate thing that you know has to lead somewhere.
E.J. and Will do agree the local “Search and Rescue” team needs a fund raiser to get a new helicopter. E.J. comes up with an idea to have a “Search and Rescue Calendar.” She wants all the members of the squad to pose naked, but tastefully so.
Will is against this idea and refuses to take part, which means they will be one man of the month short. What a quandary! Can it be resolved? Can love blossom between them? Just watch the movie and see.
Chenoweth and Hopkins make an ideal couple. They certainly have good chemistry together. Chlumsky is appealing as Jan. If she looks familiar it is because she was the star of “My Girl” and :”My Girl 2.” Also keep an eye out for Jesse Pavelka, the host of “Dietribe.” He plays one of the “Search and Rescue” men.
The cast does its job but the movie leaves you wishing it had a little bit of realism going on. “12 Men of Christmas” however is one that sticks to the pattern that has guided other movies in the past.
If you are a Chenoweth fan the movie will be good entertainment for you. She is the movie. Now if only she had sung a song or two.
“12 Men of Christmas” premieres on Saturday, December 5 at 9PM on Lifetime. |
