“Ann Rule’s Everything She Ever Wanted” (Lifetime Movie Network)
True Crime writer Ann Rule knows her stuff. In books like “Everything She Ever Wanted” she focuses in on a psychopath and gives us the full picture. In this story the object of her laser like study is Pat Allanson, a vicious woman who will do anything to get what she feels she deserves. If it happens to belong to someone else she just mows down these obstacles and proceeds with her life.
Pat (Gina Gershon) lives in a small town in South Carolina. Her eye falls on Tom Allanson (Ryan McPartlin) who is seven years her junior, but that doesn’t deter her in the least. Nor does the fact he is married with two kids. These are minor bumps in the road. Soon Tom is divorced and he and Pat are wed – in a wedding straight out of “Gone With the Wind.”
Once married, Pat moves on to a higher life style, including a Tara like mansion on the outskirts of town. Tom has lost his job but Pat figures a way to make the payments. She moves Tom’s grandfather and grandmother (Lawrence Dane and Corrine Conley) in with them and they help share expenses.
Tom’s father Walter (Victor Garber) is outraged by Pat’s life style and lets this alienate him from his son. He goes so far as to write his son out of his will. This does not set well with Pat since it means she might lose her wonderful home.
As the two night story progresses the audience learns of Pat’s nefarious ways. She is a woman who can justify anything and everything in order to get what she wants. Even her own family members are not safe from her wrath and deadly behavior.
Gershon is perfectly cast as the beautiful but evil Pat. She can provide just the right amount of cheapness to Pat’s overall persona. She is also quite believable when Pat is in her seductive mood, getting whatever she wants from the men she encounters.
McPartlin is handsome and awkward as Tom. He gives him a naiveté that underscores how helpless he is in Pat’s hands. Garber is forceful as Tom’s father Walter and Martin Donovan has an important role in the second part of Pat’s story as a crippled man desperate for attention.
Overall it is the fantastic storyline and Gershon’s performance that sell the show. Ann Rule chose a fascinating person to follow in her book and the twists and turns make it hard to believe – but it is all true.
Block out time to watch this two part drama. “Ann Rule’s Everything She Ever Wanted” premieres on the Lifetime Movie Network on November 14 at 8PM with the second part showing on November 15 at 8.PM. |
