“Burn Notice” (USA Network)

“Burn Notice” is back for its third season and it is none the worse for wear. This action/adventure show has been one of the USA Network’s consistent ratings winners, and rightly so. Jeffery Donovan, Gabrielle Anwar, Bruce Campbell and Sharon Gless all add their particular skills to the show and make it fast and fun.

Donovan plays Michael Weston, a former covert operative for the government. “Burned” or forced out he now lives in Miami trying to figure out what went wrong. He keeps his hand in taking odd jobs which require his particular skills. His team consists of former girlfriend Fiona (Anwar) who is now a bomb specialist, and Sam (Campbell) his go to guy.

Fiona has amorous intentions for Michael but so far his heart belongs to his mother (Gless). Mom’s possessive ways are enough to keep anyone busy, but then you have to give her a little credit. She keeps getting involved in some of Michael’s cases which result in things happening, like her house being partially blown up.

The heart of the show is Donovan who brings a breezy enthusiasm to his role. He also is convincing in the physical scenes and there are a lot of those. As the show has continued on the air he has gotten better and better in his role. The supporting players are a cohesive group and that helps make the show solid.

“Burn Notice” airs on the USA Network Thursday nights at 9. It is paired with another hit show, “Royal Pains”,” that follows at 10. This is a one two punch of great entertainment. Make sure you watch them both and are royally entertained and charmed.
