“Cook Yourself Thin” (Lifetime)
There are more diet plans out there than you can shake a stick at! They all promise you can lose x number of pounds in x number of weeks. Sure! Most of the food advertised looks yucky and tasteless and doesn’t compare in the least with the food we overweight people love. But now comes a show on Lifetime that actually caught my attention. It is titled “Cook Yourself Thin” and it looks, from the preview episode, like it might just have a plan.
In the first episode three cooks – Harry Eastwood, Allison Fishman and Candace Kumai – meet with a woman who wants to get pregnant. She and her husband have been seeing doctors who have advised her to lose a dress size and maybe it will happen. The problem is this woman loves to eat, and she loves food like lasagna, steak and mashed potatoes, and iced cupcakes.
These are the three foods these expert cooks tackle. They have “secret” ingredients they use to cut calories without cutting taste. At least the dishes they prepare look like they would taste good. They don’t look like diet plates, but rather just regular cooking. See why I am impressed?
The thirty minute segment is basically taken up with the cooking but there are some personal moments that add to the enjoyment of the show. At the end of the first show there is even an announcement about the results of the diet.
If you have an interest in losing weight, and you don’t want to have to give up real food, then this looks like the show for you. At least it piqued my interest, and usually the word diet turns me off from the start.
“Cook Yourself Thin” premieres May 4 at 5PM on Lifetime. A second new episode follows at 5:30. There will be double episodes the entire week, but then beginning May 11 there will be episodes only at 5PM Monday thru Friday. |
