“Dark Blue” (TNT)

“Dark Blue” is the latest entry in the TNT sweepstakes. Dylan McDermott leads the cast in this new cop thriller series from producer Jerry Bruckheimer. It concerns a police team that goes deep undercover to right the wrongs of the city, and when they go this deep sometimes things can go wrong.

Carter Shaw (McDermott) is the head of this unit and he is a man who has seen it all. Nothing surprises him and nothing seemingly scares him. He is a man on a mission and the mission is his life. His number two man is Ty Curtis (Omar Hardwick). Ty is also deeply devoted to his job but he has a wife and he is more deeply devoted to her.

The wild card is Dean Bendis (Logan Marshall-Green). Dean has been so deep and for so long that Carter worries he has been bent. He is the man of mystery and the one who has Carter’s eye. Jamie Allen (Nicki Aycox) is the new kid on the block. Being new means she can mess up and there is no room for messing up when you are in this deep.

The first show of the series is a little slow as it serves to introduce all of the characters. In the second installment things pick up and the characters begin to coalesce. Plus the storyline of the second show is better.

McDermott has been a fan favorite since his days on “The Practice.” Marshall-Green and Hardwick have the potential to be breakout stars. Aycox, well the jury is still out on her, as it is on this show. But with McDermott in the lead and Bruckheimer producing the odds are it will be around for some time to come.

“Dark Blue” premieres on TNT, Wednesday at 10PM. It is part two of a one two punch with “Leverage and those two should fit together just fine.
