“Ghost Hunters” (Sci Fi Channel)

The Sci Fi Channel brings back “Ghost Busters” for another season. Believe it or not this is season number five for Jason, Grant and their gang of ghostbusters. They start things off with a half hour about investigating one of the oldest houses in American and then follow with an investigation of the Betsy Ross Home.

When the guys and gals of The Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS) move in they bring with them all kinds of scientific equipment which will enable them to determine if there is any paranormal activity in the places they investigate. They can capture sounds, electric frequency emissions, and other data from a house or other type of location.

In the two places they investigate in the kick-off show they do conclude there are ghostly entities abounding. But after they make this decision, that is it. Oh, they do add that they don’t think any of the “spirits” are harmful or threatening, but how do they know?

This is my main fault with the show. When they do capture strange sounds and things going bump in the night they are no more discernible as to the causes than Scooby-doo and his group. They just patronizingly say that there is a problem but it isn’t harmful and then move on.

Still whatever they are doing works because the show is very popular. This is amazing as the two main guys, Jason and Grant, do not have overpowering personalities. They are both rather bland, and the same goes for the two women with them on the team. Only the techies offer any comic relief and they are low key in their humor.

Still for those with a belief in the paranormal, this is their show. “Ghost Hunters” says there is something to all this other worldly stuff and each week they hunt it down.

So tune in for the premiere of the series at 9PM on the Sci Fi Channel, Wednesday, March 11.
