“Ghost Hunters Academy” (Syfy Channel)
One of the most popular programs on the newly named Syfy Channel is “Ghost Hunters.” People seem to love watching people try to find ghosts and other paranormal displays in haunted houses, buildings, etc. Now the creators of that show have spun off an additional series titled “Ghost Hunters Academy.”
At some point in time thousands applied and five have been selected to participate in a “Ghost Hunters” tryout. These five young men and women team up with Steve Gonsalves and Dave Tango to see how they would work out as part of the “Ghost Hunters” team. As the old saying goes, many are called but few are chosen.
Gonsalves and Tango take the five recruits to Fort Mifflin in Pennsylvania and let them do some guided ghost hunting. Each of the five gets a chance to show his/her skills and possibly move forward in a chance to win a spot on the “Ghost Hunters” team.
Most of the hour show focuses on the different personalities of the recruits. We quickly see who is the aloof one, the kiss up, the smartest, and the mess up. They all show distinct personalities in a very short time.
Your enjoyment of this show will depend on how much you like this study in different personalities. There doesn’t seem to be much “ghost hunting” shown. That is almost secondary. No one gets kicked off the island in the first episode though there are some close calls.
Having never seen the entertainment value of “Ghost Hunters,” I see even less in this spin off show. Still I recognize there are devoted fans out there who will eat this up. To them I say have at it!
“Ghost Hunters Academy” premieres Wednesday, November 11 at 10PM on the Syfy Channel. It follows an episode of the original “Ghost Hunters” series. |
