“Law and Order: Criminal Intent” (The USA Network)
Vincent D’Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe lead the cast of “Law and Order: Criminal Intent” when it returns to the USA Network this month to play out its eighth season. These two are still hardworking detectives and Eric Bogosian is still on board as their superior.
In the second episode of the new season Jeff Goldblum joins the cast and is partnered with Julianne Nicholson. He plays a detective who is brilliant but a little eccentric. You can tell he is eccentric because his eyes are always moving. He is interesting to watch because you know his mind is constantly moving and focusing on the next big break in the case.
D’Onofrio, on the other hand, just comes across as weird. He mumbles his lines and acts like a junior grade Marlon Brando. He is growing into Brando-like girth too. He is an intelligent actor but it seems he is now just phoning his acting in.
Both Nicholson and Erbe offer little by way of their performances. Mostly they just stand back and let the men folk handle things. A little more assertiveness on their part would be welcome.
In the two episodes offered for preview the scripts were weak. There was a crime, an investigation and a discovery of the criminal but some of it made no sense and other parts of both episodes were illogical. Maybe for this show eight is enough.
However, if you are still a fan of the “Law and Order” franchise you will want to be on hand Sunday, April 19 at 9PM when the first new episode premieres on the USA Network. Then you can come back the next week at the same time and watch the show that introduces Jeff Goldblum to the
cast. |
