“My Boys” (TBS)

“My Boys” kicks off its third season at 10:30 PM, March 31 on TBS. From the two episodes sent for preview it appears the show continues to get better and better. Jordana Spiro continues to lead the cast as PJ, a sports writer in Chicago. Her best friends are primarily her gang of “boys” although she does have one gal pal played by Kellee Stewart.

When this show first aired I didn’t think it stood a chance of attracting regular viewers. To my eye the stories were weak and the characters lame. It wasn’t until season two that things began to coalesce. The characters appeared to really bond that year and the chemistry between them all was greatly improved.

Mike (Jamie Kaler), Kenny (Michael Bunin), Bobby (Kyle Howard), Brendan (Reid Scott), and Andy (James Gaffigan) all came into their own and took control of their characters and made them more interesting. They all became more defined and actually stood out individually. It wasn’t just this big blur of male friends.

As this season begins PJ is ready for a new relationship and embarks on that course. This of course stirs up questions with her buddies who want to know everything about this possible new guy in her life. Seeing how all that works out gets the new season off to a rousing start.

If you haven’t yet discovered the joy of watching “My Boys” then start with this new year. It is a bright, funny, comfortable show that will entertain you. It might not be the best sitcom you have ever seen but it is definitely improving.

“My Boys” premieres March 31 at 10:30 PM on TBS. Make it a regular appointment for your TV viewing.
