“Saving Grace” (TNT)
Grace is back and she is better than ever. Well Grace maybe not better, but she is even more entertaining this season. The Holly Hunter drama “Saving Grace” returns this month and it is still profane, sexual and religious. Not many shows can claim to be that varied but the persons behind “Grace” know exactly where to take the show.
Holly Hunter is still the center of attention as Police Detective Grace Hanadarko. She works at the Oklahoma City Police Department under the direction of her friend and Captain, Kate Perry (Lorraine Toussaint). She has been partnering with Ham Dewey (Kenneth Johnson) and they have also been romantically involved. Now they are taking a break both professionally and personally. Grace’s new partner is Abby Charles (Christina Ricci), who is in for a twenty-eight day rotation.
Ricci fits right in with this wonderful combination of actors. Abby is a little stand-offish at first as the character should be, but works diligently to be a part of the team. By the second and third episodes she is an accepted member of the group.
The star of the show is and shall always be Miss Hunter. It is her energy and her depth of talent that forms the show. I can’t imagine anyone else tackling this role. When the plot requires action, she delivers the action. When the plot demands emotion, she delivers emotion. She all things at all times as Grace.
Leon Rippy is her second in command in this series. As the angel” Earl, he gives the show a balance. He is the religious heart of the stories and his relationship with Grace is a beautiful thing to see. The show is all about “saving Grace” and he is doing everything he can to see that this is accomplished.
“Saving Grace” is not a show for everyone. Many will be turned off by the volume of profanity uttered each and every week. Then there is also the nudity and the sexual activity. This is definitely a show for adults. But underneath all this is an emotional core that stresses strong values of love, friendship and kindness. If Grace loves you, well she really loves you and will do anything and everything to protect you and keep you safe.
I love this show and am so glad it is back with new episodes. Holly Hunter is one of my favorite actresses. She isn’t right for every role she takes but with Grace it is a perfect fit. I say welcome back and please stay awhile.
“Saving Grace” starts back on TNT, March 2 at 10PM. Don’t miss it! |
