“Warehouse 13” (Syfy)
The cable channel Syfy (previously known as the Sci Fi Channel) has a new series on the air. It is titled “Warehouse 13” and it concerns those things that don’t make any sense in the universe but are allegedly in existence. Eddie McClintock and Joanna Kelly star as two federal agents assigned to this project. Myka Bering (Kelly) is a by the books agent while Pete Lattimer (McClintock) relies on his vibes and gut reaction. Are they oil and vinegar? You bet.
The two agents do not know what to expect when they are told to report to a spot in South Dakota. There they are met by Agent Artie Nielsen (Saul Rubinek) who takes them on a tour of “Warehouse 13” and then gives them their assignments. It seems all of their assignments will concern tracing down artifacts which have mysterious and probably evil powers.
CCH Pounder, one of my favorite actresses, has a continuing role as the mysterious Mrs. Frederic who supposedly is the woman in charge of the project. She seems to have power over all levels of government and always gets her way. Every time Pounder appears on screen my interest perks up.
McClintock and Kelly do not click with the audience immediately but by the end of the first show they have begun too grow on you. Hopefully the chemistry between them will become even more intense and enjoyable as the season progresses.
With Rubinek more is less. In his role as Artie he is supposed to be some kind of comic relief but he doesn’t achieve that status in the first episode. He is just annoying. Again he may grow on viewers as the season progresses but with him it is iffy.
The Sci Fi Channel – now Syfy – always concentrated on programs that were a little bit off beat and “Warehouse 13” certainly fits into that category. It has some traces of “The X Files” but is not as somber. There is a lighter edge to everything that happens but not as extreme as the mood of “Eureka.”
“Warehouse 13” is certainly a series you should give a try. Who knows it might just grow on you. There are a lot of objects in that warehouse and a lot of stories to be told.
“Warehouse 13” airs on Syfy” every Tuesday at 9PM. |
