“Wedding Day” (TNT)

It is June, the traditional month for weddings, and TNT has a new series appropriate for the month. It is titled “Wedding Day” and it is all about weddings. Alan Dunn and Diann Valentine are the hosts of this show. He is an event planner and she is a wedding coordinator so they know of what they speak.

The premise of the show is to find a couple who has overcome war, sickness, poverty or any other life size tragedy that has interfered with their wedding plans. Alan and Diann show up and announce to the couple that they are going to organize and create their “dream wedding.” They then sit down with the couple and get some ideas from them about what they would want their “dream wedding” to be like if they could afford it.

Before you can say “I do” Alan and Diann are rushing about getting things underway, aided and abetted by the couples’ families and friends. They get the church decorated as well as the place where the reception will be held, plan a rehearsal dinner, and even get the bride lined up with a wedding gown of her dreams.

All of this is done with much emotion and tears. The couples are all extremely appealing and the joy they radiate is touching. If this show doesn’t make you feel weepy then nothing will.

We also get the background on the couple through words spoken by them or by those closest to them. We learn how the tragedies and hardships have affected them, and how they have struggled to overcome them.

As each new show progresses many, many young couples will get the chance to see their dreams come true. “wedding Day” will offer you a chance to see it all. You do have to wonder if the show will stick with traditional nuptials or if they will go for the ratings in the future with a same sex marriage. For right now it is basically the church, the white gown and the loving family. What the future holds is unknown.

“Wedding Day” airs every Tuesday at 8PM on TNT.
