“Are We There Yet?” (TBS)

TBS has a new series based on the movie “Are We There Yet? “which starred Ice Cube. This new series is from Ice Cube’s production company and Ice Cube appears in the series from time to time. The premise of the show is a man marrying a woman with two children and then trying to fit into all their lives. It opens up a full range of comedic possibilities and this show capitalizes on them all.

Nick (Terry Crews) and Suzanne (Essence Atkins) have been married only six months when the series starts. Nick is trying to win over her two children Lindsey (Teala Dunn) and Kevin (Coy Stewart) and convince them to call him Dad. They decide they will do that, when it benefits them.

Crews has a great sense of comic timing and has charm to spare. The same is true of Atkins. Together these two make a couple you like watching. Plus they are totally believable in their roles. The same is true of the two kids who act naturally and are smart without being smart alecks.

Popping up from time to time are Suzanne’s best friend Gigi (Keesha Sharp), Nick’s best friend Martin (Christian Finnegan), Nick’s mother (Telma Hopkins) and Suzanne’s older brother (Ice Cube). This is a very strong supporting cast and they are just as good as the almost perfectly cast lead players.

This show looks like it could be a major hit for TBS. It has funny stories and funny characters, plus the ensemble cast is easy on the eyes. These are people you feel comfortable inviting into your home.

Ice Cube made a hit movie off of these characters and now it looks like he has helped create a hit show. Tune in to TBS on Wednesday, June 2 at 9PM for the premiere of “Are We There Yet?”.
