“Another Season Finale”
“Psych” has been on a roll as of late. The scripts have gotten better and the acting is excellent especially by the leads James Roday and Dule’ Hill. On the season finale this week they offer one of their best episodes ever. Roday directs this one and also co-wrote the script. Busy man, talented man.
The “final” show has an Alfred Hitchcock motif that spices up the fun and drama of the “Psych” characters. Shawn (Roday) and Gus (Hill) are trying to solve some murders before they happen. It seems like the elusive Ms Yang (guest star Ally Sheedy) is back on the scene but they know she is actually in a mental hospital.
Quickly they determine she has a partner, a Mr. Yin if you will. He is the one setting up the crimes and leaving clues from the Hitchcock movies. Shawn uses all his observant energies to find and stop the crimes but this is one time Shawn may be too late to save the day.
This show is a little more dramatic than the usual “Psych” show. There are still some really funny moments but the drama does slip in. Roday and Hill are capable of handling both elements.
In this show Corbin Bernsen and semi-regular Rachel Leigh Cook also appear. They provide balance to the desperation of the lead characters in solving the crimes. If I had my way Rachel Leigh Cook would appear in every episode.
There are a lot of good shows on the USA Network and sometimes “Psych” gets overlooked in the praise department. “Burn Notice” and the new “White Collar’ get more than their share of the attention. Meanwhile “Psych” goes quietly about its business of being entertaining.
If you like “Psych” then do not miss this last episode of the season. It airs Wednesday, March 10 at 10PM on the USA Network. It is definitely worth watching. |
