“Seven Deadly Sins” (Lifetime Movie Network)
The new Lifetime Movie Network two night mini-series “Seven Deadly Sins” is based on the popular series of books by Robin Wasserman. This four hour, two part movie covers all the seven deadly sins which are lust, greed, envy, wrath, gluttony, sloth and pride. Each has an impact on the story of students at a high school in Grace, California.
The queen bee at the high school is Harper Grace (Dreama Walker). She has been on the top of the mountain for years but her family’s recent financial losses and the arrival of a new girl named Kaia (Rachel Melvin) lead to her downfall. Kaia moves in and turns everyone’s world upside down.
The first couple to feel the effect of her loving ways is Adam (Jared Keeso) and Beth (Emma Lahana). Adam is a big track star and Beth is the class good girl and they are the envy of everyone. Still when Kaia casts her roving eye on Adam this couple doesn’t stand a chance. Of course the breakup makes Harper happy as she has been pining over Adam for years.
Later in the show there is an automobile accident and someone ends up dead. The second half of the series deals with the efforts of the local detective (Leslie Hope) to solve the case in which she suspects foul play. Her investigation is hampered by the fact she is having an affair with Harper’s father. Grace, California might as well change its name to Peyton Place.
This movie sports a bright list of rising stars and they make it all interesting and enjoyable in a “Gossip Girl” sort of way. The high school seniors in the movie spend their time drinking, doing drugs, or having romantic affairs. The parents only appear from time to time and then sort of smile and send them on to the next party.
Walker has an appeal to her though she looks like Natalie Maines (“Dixie Chicks”) little sister. Melvin is convincing as the wild and wanton Kaia. Keeso makes an impression as Adam while Hope provides a semblance of maturity as the detective. Eric Close is probably the best known member of the cast. He plays a French teacher who gets involved with one of the students.
There is a lot going on in “Seven Deadly Sins” and if you watch it you definitely won’t be bored. The young cast makes it all fresh and new and help move their careers forward. They are bound to get attention for these roles.
“Seven Deadly Sins” premieres on the Lifetime Movie Network, Sunday and Monday, May 23 and 24 at 8PM. |
