“The Next Food Network Star” (Food Network)
If you don’t like to cook, and you don’t like “Survivor” like programs where somebody gets kicked off the “island” each week; why in the world should you watch “The Next Food Network Star”? I’ll give you an easy answer – because it is good television. The makers of this series know how to make an informative, energetic and most of all entertaining program. So put this one on your viewing schedule and bring some goodies with you when you watch because this show will make you hungry.
The show has as its celebrity guide the incomparable Giada De Laurentiis, who is one of the Food Network’s brightest stars. Appearing as one of the judges is chef extraordinaire Bobby Flay. Throw into the mix the twelve contestants who are aspiring chefs from all over the United States. These six men and six women immediately capture the viewers’ attention and make their personalities known.
You get the fitness trainer, the whiner, the improve comic, the professional, and many more personality types. The great thing is these people establish their individuality and do it quickly. By the end of the first show you already have your favorites and are pulling for them to go the distance.
On the show the contestants are given a variety of cooking challenges and also some personality ones because in order to be the next Food Network star you have to be able to cook, present and show personality. Some excel in one area but fail in the others, but from the start there is one who can do everything. It will be interesting to see if she can go the distance. With each episode you get to see one person eliminated and that is traumatic for them and for the viewer.
The food that is shown is mouth-watering. There are people like me who do not like to cook but that doesn’t mean they don’t like to eat. I fall into that eating category and I would love to be on the set to sample these dishes as they are made. Even food I usually wouldn’t order in a restaurant looks good to me by the way they prepare and present it.
So here you have a series that is full of interesting people, impressive judges, and a wealth of wonderful looking food. Plus you even get to see the way it is prepared and who knows this might inspire you to do some cooking on your own.
Tune in for the premiere episode of “The Next Food Network Star” on Sunday, June 6 at 9PM on the Food Network. You will be surprised by how much fun this show is. |
