“The Tudors” (SHOWTIME)
“The Tudors” is returning for its fourth and final season. This depiction of the life and loves of Henry VIII (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) is one of SHOWTIME’s most adventurous productions and has charmed critics and audiences alike. It is a show that looks like multi million of dollars were spent to recreate the life and times of Henry, and to bring together a cast that make the stories live and breathe.
This new season opens with Henry taking a new bride Katherine Howard (Tamzin Merchant) after his last marriage to Anne of Cleves (Joss Stone) has been annulled. Henry is still having health issues with an ulcer on his leg and after a while Katherine develops a roving eye.
Meanwhile Henry’s daughter Mary (Sarah Bolger) has trouble warming to Katherine, and this causes Katherine to complain to Henry she is not being respected. As this is happening there is plotting a plenty in Henry’s court.
The tone of the show is set by Rhys Meyers portrayal of Henry. He sets the acting bar high but the supporting players almost all achieve that level too. Plus the script for this series is written in such a way as to hold the audiences attention week after week and year after year. When this show ends its run it will be missed by a devoted core of fans.
So get ready for one great explosion of entertainment as “The Tudors” arrives for its final season. We have learned a lot of history in the past three seasons and we have seen a lot of violence and passion. Odds are that this year will be more of the same.
“The Tudors” premieres on SHOWTIME, Sunday, April 11 at 9PM. |
