“True Blood” (HBO)
Season three of HBO’s hit series “True Blood” is off and running and it is going to be quite a year. The show jumped into full plot mode with the opening episode. We immediately found Sookie (Anna Paquin) searching for the missing Bill (Stephen Moyer). She had almost agreed to marry him but he disappeared before she could give him an answer.
While Sookie is looking for Bill, Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) is trying to get used to being a vampire. She also has some problems trying to dispose of a body. Sookie doesn’t want to hear her problems because she has to get Bill back. She asks Eric (Alexander Skasgard), another vampire, for help but he doesn’t know where Bill is, or at least says he doesn’t.
There is a lot of plot going on. The first episode jumped in right where everything ended last year so if you aren’t up to date then just hang on and hope it all clears up as the year progresses. Two main things to remember: Sookie and Bill are a couple. He is a vampire and she has ESP of sorts. Also Sam (Sam Trammell) is looking for his family. That takes up a lot of plot time too. Sam is a shape shifter as are some of the members of his family.
The series is based on the books of Charlaine Harris and captures the humor and the heart of her stories. The dialogue is satirical at times and flat out hilarious at others. The characters play out these adventures with straight faces and make the vampire/werewolf/psychic aspects totally believable.
Paquin and Moyer are perfect as the star crossed lovers while minor roles played by Carrie Preston and Alfre Woodard add enrichment to the show. You even get William Sanderson from the old “Bob Newhart Show” on view as the local sheriff.
There is a lot of violence sex and nudity on display since this is the uncensored world of HBO. So know going in that this is an adult series and you are probably going to be shocked.
Every week it seems there is talk and controversy over something that happened in “True Blood” at the top of the entertainment news. So if you are not watching this show then you are out of the loop. Get into it all by tuning in to HBO on Sunday nights at 9. You won’t be disappointed! |
